Peaks for Paws Fundraiser

Why we are asking for your support

In September Richard Ward will be tackling the Peak District Challenge Ultramarathon , a 100km self-guided trail race in the Peak District.

Richard says

“ I'm a serial offender when to comes to these events, so it makes sense to try use my gross acts of stupidity as fundraisers. In this case I’m supporting The PAWS Trust.

PAWS or Practical Aid For Wolfhounds to use it's full name, is an organisation close to the heart of Ward household, we have Irish Wolfhounds and Helen is part of the PAWS regional team.

The plan

Departing Hathersage at 9pm on Friday the 13th I'll be running through the night, hoping to reach the halfway point (wherever that may be!) around dawn on Saturday. From there, it's just the small matter of another 50km back to the finish in Hathersage. Weather and legs permitting, I'm hoping to complete the race within 18 hours.

How you can help

Please share my post with your friends and anyone you know who loves big hairy dogs and masochistic athletes

If you can spare even the smallest of donations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!”

Peaks For Paws Update (17/8/24)

Its now only 4 weeks until I tackle the Peak District Challenge Ultramarathon on Friday 13th September. Training is going well (ish), a bout of Manthrax and some dental surgery left me a little fragile through most of July, but this week between running, cycling and walking the pups I’ve got just over 250km in the legs, see if we can push that into the 300’s next week.

Fair to say Pip is enjoying the miles we’re putting in, especially if there’s water involved and a meetup with the rest of the pack.

I’m well over halfway with my fundraising for PAWS, so thank you to everybody has donated so far, for those that have not, you have still have time, even the smallest donation is greatly appreciated.

Neala's Pet Party - ONLINE PET SHOW - running til 19th April

He’s at it again! Our Helping PAWS fundraiser Tom “Wombat” Perrott and his wife Rosi, are kindly running an online pet show for PAWS on Facebook.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 outbreak, we won’t be running our annual Fun Day this year. So Tom and Rosi had the excellent idea of an online show - not just for our canine companions, but for all of the pets who share their lives with us.

We are hoping that looking at some great photos of our lovely pets will bring a much needed smile and some light relief!

For full details of classes and how to enter, please see the attached flyer.

Sylvia Court

Sylvia sadly passed away on Xmas Eve after a very short sudden illness. She will be remembered very fondly by the PAWS Team and by all those who attended Judi’s Fun Days over the years, where Sylvia was often a judge. She was always so kind and gentle with dogs and truly loved spending time being surrounded by them. A bubbly, fun-loving lady, who will be very much missed by all who knew, laughed and smiled with her.

Sylvia's son Ian has asked that the following be shared:-
Sylvia Court’s funeral will take place on January 24th at 11.30a.m. at Boston Crematorium. Family flowers only please by request, but donations in her memory can be made to Practical Aid for Wolfhounds, a cause that she had always supported.

Please go to https://www.goldengiving.co.uk/secure/donation/paws if you wish to mark her passing with a contribution. Thank you.

PAWS volunteers have been using orthopets harnesses and slings from time to time on their own hounds for many years and these products come highly recommended.

Orthopets products are available to fit all shapes and sizes of dog - and they can also provide custom solutions where necessary.

Pedal perfect Tom Perrott pushed himself to the limit this weekend for PAWS and completed the Dorset Gravel Dash!

Not only does this represent an amazing personal goal in Tom's fight for fitness - it also means that thanks to his generosity - and that of his supporters - Tom has raised a wonderful £835 for PAWS!

Not only did he reach his target amount - he smashed it! Thank you to everyone who donated.

This is well in excess of his original goal of £250 and means that we can buy mobility equipment for Wolfhounds in need - not just for Tom's own region - but for pretty much every region in the UK. This is a fantastic achievement and the PAWS Team would like to thank Tom for his kindness in thinking of PAWS as his chosen charity.

Huge congratulations to Tom for completing the course and a massive thank you to Rosi, "the furry ones" and everyone who has supported Tom throughout his training.
